Setting the Look

The preparation process for building a character can be a long one. At times, it even involves another department like wardrobe, hair and makeup. Setting the look and image works hand in hand with my portrayal of the character and it is important. The imaging session for Zhao Fei-er took approximately 4 days of work (when usually 1 day would be sufficient), going through various hairstyles and makeup looks, pairing them off with different clothes. Fei-er goes through several phases of highs and lows, and that has to be reflected as well. To top it off, she is an actress in the drama, so naturally there will be drama within a drama looks (in fact, several dramas within a drama). I have so many costume and hair/makeup changes that I think my production team is worried because there are so many things to take note of.

In fact, several different fitting sessions still go on as I film since I have many separate scenes that require special looks. I had an Awards Ceremony scene and it featured Zhao Fei-er in a made-to-measure red gown and Bulgari jewellery worth $137k. There’s so much effort put into every scene.

These are the one-off special scenes that had specific clothes brought in for me. Attached is a video where you get a glimpse of how the team creates the usual Zhao Fei-er looks which you will see more of as I post and update more with photos. Here’s one of me on set, in one of Fei-er’s usual look.
